Air Source and Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground source heat pumps extract heat from the ground through either bore holes or ground arrays. The equipment needed to drill bore holes can often be prohibitive for many clients but we are happy to provide information and prices upon request. For a ground loop system trenches which are approximately 1.5 m deep and 50m in length are dug. The number of trenches/bore holes will depend upon the heat loss of your property. A ground loop system works on the basis that approximately one metre below the surface it is a relatively constant temperature. Ground source heat pumps are more costly than air source heat pumps to install but attract a higher renewable heat incentive (RHI) payment as they are more efficient. As a result of this efficiency they have lower running costs and attract bigger savings. By the very nature of the design of a ground source heat pump they are protected from the elements, are virtually noiseless and need no planning permission.

Air Source Heatpumps

For homes with limited space, air-source heat pumps are an ideal choice. They are more compact than regular ground source heat pumps. Unlike using radiators or underfloor heating, air source heat pumps use internal heads mounted just below ceiling height. These heads blow warm or cool air around your home. Air source heat pumps are perfect for properties with rooms that struggle to regulate their temperatures, such as conservatories or those lacking heat emitters like radiators or underfloor heating. They are a valuable addition to any urban home.
